Monkey: Journey to the West

We can all agree that monkeys are awesome. Whenever I see something that has to do with monkeys, I have to check it out. I just spent the last hour browsing Monkey: Journey to the West. It’s a cool project by the Gorillaz team.

Journey to the West is performed by both European and Chinese musicians and singers and produced by Damon Albarn. The album is a natural development of art and music based on the opera of the same name which Albarn and Hewlett Created with director Chen Shi-Zheng.

The album illustrations are amazing, and you can see more on this page. In addition to the album, the Monkey Shop also sells t-shirts and artwork. Why can’t popular animated shows that last for 7-plus seasons have this kind of quality? I wish I saw the actual opera live. Looks/sounds amazing.
