Cover Band @ Gallery 1988

Shannon Bonatakis – Radiohead: The Bends

Cover Band is the latest group art show at Gallery 1988 LA, and it opened last night. Over 50 artists used the “greatest LP covers of all time” as their canvas.

Call me a music snob, but I was a little ambivalent about the concept. I think it’s great to incorporate music and art, but it seems almost blasphemous to mess with the original cover art. Gallery 1988 posted an online gallery of the show, and it’s interesting to see all of the interpretations. Some of them work; some of them don’t. You can see all of the artwork here.

Just checked the gallery and I’m feeling Tom Haubrick’s “Harvest.” I feel like he’s one of the few approached the “assignment/concept” the way i would have.
