If you haven’t seen Ponyo yet, you’re missing out on a very cute movie. I watched the original release Ponyo on a Cliff by the Sea, but I haven’t seen Disney’s dubbed version yet. Now I’m compelled because of this review.
The US vocal cast is headed by Tina Fey as Sosuke’s mom, along with Liam Neeson as Ponyo’s dad and Cate Blanchett as Ponyo’s sea goddess mom. Also popping in along the way are Matt Damon as Sosuke’s dad and a golden girl trifecta of Betty White, Cloris Leachman, and Lily Tomlin as senior center residents.
If you’re going to release a dubbed movie, you might as well go all out! If that review doesn’t convince you, you’ve got to see the trailer. It’s an odd but cute movie.

I wanted to see this in cinemas when it came out but my boyfriend wouldn’t come with me. I’ve heard from many people it’s worth watching though! x
it’s really, really cute…not as cute as Totoro but still pretty darn cute.
I took Brendon to watch the dubbed version in theatre… very cute indeed! I had no idea Tina Fey was the mom!
All I needed was you to tip my opinion over the edge… the cover image was so cute and your review has me further intrigued!!
thea.
xx
(spoonful zine)
In the extras, it says something about how Totoro is for slightly older audiences (older than 7 or 8) and Ponyo’s meant for 5-7 year olds or something like that… Okay, I can’t remember the exact wording and I wasn’t paying that much attention. I was multi-tasking.
Anyway, Mia really enjoyed it. We did, too… :)
(He appreciates the linkage)
grrrace: that’s interesting. a part of me thinks that Ponyo might be confusing for younger kids, while Totoro seems just right for them. in any case, they’re two of my fave of Miyazaki.
thea: both kids and adults should watch it. :)
WTF is that weird emoticon doing there? I have no idea what shortcut I used to get that thing in there. hehe.
Yeah… I’ll have to ask the boy when he gets home, but Miyazaki himself said that!
it’s the cool-face emoticon. lol.
