On October 19, Monkeyhouse Toys presents “Story Time Group Show” featuring original works by over 40 artists who created an original character they would have loved to watch on TV or read about in a book when growing up. Each piece is accompanied by a short story written by the artist.
Here is a sneak preview of Leslie Levings’ piece for the show. It looks like that blue Beastlie is telling an epic story!
“Story Time Group Show” opens on October 19 with a family-friendly exhibition from 5-8pm. Free Bleenkies character buttons and coloring pages will be available while supplies last!
Maulkie, Monty, and Dugan are pretty freaking excited that San Diego Comic-Con is next week! Find Beastlies in Small Press Pavilion at table N-09.
Leslie Levings previewed some of the bigger creatures that she’ll be bringing with her. One word: AMAZING.
If you’re attending Comic-Con next week, I suggest you visit table N-09 asap to get your first picks. Tell Leslie that Supahcute says hello!
Today is my birthday, and I just received the best birthday drawing!! I was celebrating my birthday weekend with friends, and one of them showed me a cute drawing she’d been working on. So I requested a Beastlie drawing… with me riding on the Beastlie… and carrying a sword. I may have requested rainbow lasers coming out of my eyes, but I was a little drunk so I don’t remember. Anyway this is what she drew and it is the best ever!! Thanks, Katie!!
Rodger surprised me with this trio of Beastlies over the weekend. The one in the middle is from Supah Pop-Up a few weeks ago, and he conspired with my friend Grace to buy it without me noticing. And I had really wanted that one, too! I love my new little friends.
Thanks to Grace, now I have the perfect Beastlie accessory that can go with any outfit!
I also received a Fuji Instax Mini 8 over the weekend, and Maulkie the Beastlie joined me for a few test shots. As you can see, I’m having a very Beastlies birthday week!
Thanks to everyone who stopped by Supah Pop-Up last night at Leanna Lin’s Wonderland! Everyone had a great time, and the artists appreciated all the support they received from fans, both old and new. (If you’re on Vine, find me Supahcute and Orbital Ox to see a few clips from the evening.)

Via Leslie’s Tumblr:

These little guys just heard that Leslie Levings will be at Supah Pop-Up on June 8, and they are pretty excited!! Leslie will be live sculpting new Beastlies, and (if all goes well) a few of the newly created Beastlies will be available for sale at the event. She will also bringing a brand new Beastlie product, but you’ll have to come out to Leanna Lin’s Wonderland to see it.
If you attend Supah Pop-Up, don’t miss The Corner Museum of Dubious Beasts. Even though most of the pieces have sold, there are a lot of critters who still need good homes, like this Globular fruitbeast. Who wouldn’t love a Globular fruitbeast?!
Also available is this Antlered Forest Beast, the collaborative piece that Leslie created with Shing Yin Khor. I’m really hoping this finds a loving home, too! See all of the Supah Mashup pieces here.
The upcoming art corner at Leanna Lin’s Wonderland features two of my favorite artists in the whole world. Inspired by early cabinets of curiosities and the mustiest corners of old museums, critter curators and sculptors Leslie Levings and Shing Yin Khor unveil a collection of strange and wonderful beady eyed things in The Corner Museum of Dubious Beasts.
These are just a few of the critters that will be in their two-person show. I’m also excited that Leslie and Shing will have a collaborative piece in the Supah Mashup Art Party! Both shows open on Saturday, May 11 with a reception from 6-10pm. Hope to see you there!
One day two Beastlies discovered a Beastlie ornament hanging from a Christmas tree. They had never seen a Beastlie ornament before and invited him to hang out.
First, they checked out all the beautiful presents under the tree. The lack of thumbs made opening them impossible so they moved on.
“There’s this place called Trader Joe’s, and they make these amazing cookies called Peppermint Joe Joe’s!!”
“And this is how you eat a cookie! OM NOM NOM NOM!!”
The Beastlies soon discovered their love of adult beverages. ”I don’t know what vodka is, but it’s freaking delicious!!”
Knute didn’t quite care for the flavor, but he finished the rest anyway.
They decided to read each other a bedtime story. Unfortunately, none of them knew how to read so Knute turned the pages after an appropriate pause.
After a long night, they decided to take the Beastlie ornament home.
Knute didn’t know why the tree made him uneasy. But it did.
“Well, that was fun. But there’s no place like home!”
Thanks to my friend Grace for participating in the photo shoot and providing the Christmas tree, standing Beastlie, and Beastlie ornament. Knute is my Beastlie. Also, thanks to Leslie Levings for creating these wonderful Beastlies!! See full size photos here. Originally posted 12/19/10.
Get your Beastlies fix at booth 326 this Saturday at Designer Con. I’d get there early in case they sell out completely. It has happened before!
Also, you may have seen this article already, but just in case you didn’t: J.J. Abrams Buys Feature Film and Animated Series Rights to Beastlies. (Thanks to justJENN Designs for tweeting the link.)
I had hoped it wasn’t too good to be true, and artist Leslie Levings has confirmed: “Okay! Well, it’s out of the bag now, so I can tell you guys that I am in fact working with JJ and Bad Robot to make an animated thing with the Beastlies!” Beastlies fans rejoice!! Congratulations Leslie!!
