Jerrod Maruyama and Jared Andrew Schorr have been busy working on their pieces for Supah Mashup Art Party, and here is your first look at two of their collaborative works. I totally squealed when I saw these photos. (Tomorrow I’ll share sneak peeks of their individual pieces…)

Jerrod explains the inspiration behind their artwork: For a long time now I have wanted to do a tribute to Studio Ghibli and all of their wonderful characters. It turned out to be the perfect common ground for Jared and I to collaborate. We both love these films and the hardest part of the process was narrowing down which titles to pay tribute to. Once we did that, the inspiration came quickly. So many of the Ghibli films focus on a contrast of different worlds and that’s pretty much the perfect inspiration for artwork that features two distinct styles.

Supah Mashup Art Party – A Celebration of Cute Collaborative Art – opens at Leanna Lin’s Wonderland on Saturday, May 11 with an opening reception from 6-10 pm.
